Our safety approach

A helping hand. Never a safety shortcut.

Community repair runs on trust. RepairRelay helps with the coordination, while clear rules—and people—keep safety in the right hands.

When every check passes

A path to automatic assignment

  • Low-risk mechanical repairs
  • Textile and clothing repairs
  • Furniture and bicycle repairs
  • Medium-risk electrical repairs with an explicitly qualified volunteer

Always paused for human review

A person needs to take a look

  • High-voltage equipment and microwaves
  • Gas appliances
  • Damaged lithium batteries
  • Pressure systems
  • Unknown hazards, unresolved uncertainty, or low-confidence triage

An eligible category is only the start. Skills, valid qualifications, tools, availability, workload, and session capacity must all pass before a repair is assigned.

Two different responsibilities

AI understands the report. Code holds the boundary.

A model’s confidence is not permission to act. The application independently checks the facts before reserving a volunteer or a session.

Interpret the request

Strands structures the item, symptoms, hazards, likely fault areas, skills, tools, and uncertainty into a triage assessment.

Apply deterministic checks

Application rules enforce safety and qualifications, check the available volunteers and sessions, and commit capacity only when eligible.

Keep people in control

A coordinator can decline for safety or arrange manual handling. There is no generic safety override. Each decision is recorded.
